Police charge man in NC armored car robbery www.privateofficer.com

Indian Trail NC July 1 2010 A Charlotte man is in a Union County jail, charged in connection with the robbery of two armored car drivers last week in Indian Trail, authorities say.

The Union County Sheriff’s Office says it has charged Jason Mark Stewart, 27, with robbery with a dangerous weapon and possession of a firearm by a felon. Sheriff Eddie Cathey says Stewart has been linked to last Thursday’s robbery at a Southeastern Employees Credit Union automated teller machine in the 14000 block of East Independence Boulevard.

Cathey says the two employees of Pendum LLC were servicing the machine when they were robbed by a man, who fled with a large amount of money from the machine.

The sheriff says evidence gathered at the scene helped lead deputies, with help from the Charlotte-Mecklenburg police, to Stewart. He was arrested Monday night at a Studio 6 hotel on Queen City Drive in Charlotte, the sheriff says.

Cathey said “a substantial amount of money, linking Stewart to the robbery” was found in the hotel room.

Stewart is being held on $175,000 bond and is scheduled for an initial court appearance Aug. 4.
